The tools of leadership, culture, and talent development

LTA use a range of psychometric tools to accelerate learning, development and change. Across our culture, capability, and connection practices, all our tools are administered and interpreted by our accredited practitioners.

Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®) Step I and II
MBTI is a self-report questionnaire that indicates personality style and preferences. Based on more than 50 years of research and development, it is the most widely recognised personality instrument used today. The MBTI has a wide range of applications, from coaching to team building and individual career development.

Everything DiSC
Everything DiSC is a personal development assessment that measures an individual's behavioural style. The assessment is designed to help an individual understand his or her behaviour in the workplace, understand the behaviour of others, and how to use this knowledge in different work situations.

Fundamental Interpersonal Relationship Orientation-Behaviour (FIRO-B®)
This personality assessment tool measures behaviour derived from three interpersonal needs: the need for inclusion, control and affection. The instrument measures how you typically behave with other people and how you expect them to act toward you, and is used in coaching, team building or personal development.

TMS Team Management Profile (TMP)
TMP is the leading instrument in the Team Management Systems suite. It helps individuals understand how and why they do what they do. TMP is used in team building and development, and can be used for individual coaching and leadership development.

Strong Interest Inventory
This assessment process matches an individual’s interests with appropriate jobs, education and leisure activities. The Strong Interest Inventory is primarily used in career coaching.

Psychometric Assessment

SHL Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ)
One of the most widely used work-based personality questionnaires in the world, OPQ is a personality questionnaire that describes 32 dimensions, or ‘scales’ of people’s preferred or typical style of behaviour at work. The OPQ is used in selection and development.

SHL OPQ Emotional & Social Competence Report (ESC)
Derived from the original OPQ, this self-assessment tool was modelled on Goleman’s (1999) Emotional Intelligence (EI) framework. It provides insights into a manager’s leadership style by focusing on Emotional and Social Competence.

The OPQ ESC can be used in coaching and development, and to provide supporting information during selection.

SHL Motivation Questionnaire (MQ)
MQ measures 18 dimensions of an individual’s motivation, and provides a comprehensive understanding of the situations that will increase and reduce their motivation.

SHL Verify Ability tests
SHL's ability tests are available for a range of job roles and levels, and provide a secure, online process for assessing a range of skills. They identify high-calibre potential effectively, quickly and securely.

The assessments cover Numerical, Verbal, Inductive, and Deductive Reasoning, Mechanical Comprehension, Spatial Ability, Checking, Calculation, Reading Comprehension, and General Ability.

Burke Learning Agility Suite
The Burke Learning Agility suite of questionnaires assess behaviours associated with an individual’s learning agility. Learning agility is defined as the capacity to learn from one’s experiences in real time, especially in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous operating environment. Measuring 9 key behaviours: Flexibility, speed, interpersonal risk taking, performance risk taking, experimentation, feedback, reflection, collaborating and information gathering, the Burke suite are available in both self-report (Burke LAI) and 360 feedback (Burke LAS) versions.

360-Degree Feedback

CCL Benchmarks® 360 Assessment Suite
The Suite includes four research-based instruments that help organisations create a common leadership language and consistent feedback process at multiple levels through the company. It includes: Benchmarks® for Executives™ to develop top-level leaders; Benchmarks® for Managers™ to assess the lessons of experience; and Benchmarks® for Learning Agility™ to discover the ability to learn from experience.

The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI)
This 360-degree feedback tool is based on a behavioural model of leadership developed by Kouzes and Posner. The tool measures behaviour in 5 key leadership practices.

Life Styles Inventory (LSI)
Developed by Human Synergistics, this 360-degree feedback leadership tool is used extensively in corporate Australia.  It measures the underlying thoughts and motivations that guide an individual's behaviour. The LSI helps to clarify people’s strengths, and the development opportunities needed to improve effectiveness and performance.

The Leadership Circle Profile™
This tool accelerates leadership effectiveness through providing focused competency feedback and revealing the underlying assumptions that are causing a leader’s pattern of strengths and limitations.  The Leadership Circle Profile™ helps leaders understand the relationship between how they habitually think, how they behave, and, more importantly, how all this impacts their current level of leadership effectiveness.

TMS Strategic Team Development Profile (STDP)
The STDP is a 360-degree tool from the Team Management Systems suite. It captures feedback regarding how a team is performing in 8 key areas linked to high performance. STDP is used in team performance benchmarking and team building.

Talent Conversations

Career Path Appreciation (CPA)
The CPA is a semi-structured, one-to-one interview exploring an individual’s career history and preferred approach to work. Developed by BIOSS, CPA seeks to recognise the current scope of the leader’s comfort to form judgments in the face of complexity and ambiguity and of their longer-term development potential. The CPA is used in a talent identification, management and development.

Initial Recruitment Interview Schedule (IRIS)
Developed by BIOSS, this screening tool identifies capability in individuals in a relatively short period of time. In this context, capability is defined as the ability to make a decision in the face of uncertainty. IRIS is designed specifically for selection and assessment, and can be used in individual and career development.

Culture Diagnostics

Cultural Values Assessment (CVA)
Using a 15-minute survey, CVA provides a comprehensive diagnostic of the culture of organisations. It provides detailed understanding of the personal motivations and experiences of employees, and the direction the organisation should be heading. CVA provides a road map for achieving high performance, full-spectrum resilience and sustainability, and is used by over 6,000 organisations.

It was only when someone asked me what are you passionate about (a question I normally ask my own coaching clients) that I made a decision to incorporate more sport into my life and career and these coaching opportunities came about.

Since then, as a coach of elite sport coaches and my own experience... More...
